Deadpool Sequel Moves Up Two Weeks, New Mutants Delayed

The Hollywood Reporter brings word of some shuffling going on at 20th Century Fox with some pretty surprising changes to their release calendar. First up is the highly-anticipated Deadpool 2, which moves up two weeks from June 1 to May 18. Deadpool 2 now opens the same day as Screen Gems’ horror film Slender Man, and one week ahead of Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Ryan Reynolds is reprising his role as the Merc with a Mouth alongside Zazie Beetz as the luck-manipulating mutant Domino and Josh Brolin as Cable, the time-traveling son of the X-Men’s Cyclops. Jack Kesy (The StrainBaywatch) is attached to play the film’s central villain, which, while unconfirmed, is rumored to be Irish mutant Black Tom Cassidy. Japanese actress Shioli Kutsuna and Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) have also joined the film in mystery roles.

Next is The New Mutants feature film from Josh Boone, which was set to arrive in just three months on April 13. The film has been delayed ten months and will now be released on February 22, 2019. The cast for New Mutants includes Anya Taylor-Joy (SplitThe Witch) as Magik, Maisie Williams (Game of ThronesDoctor Who) as Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton (Stranger ThingsShut In) as Cannonball, with newcomer Blu Hunt (The Originals) as Danielle Moonstar, Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why) as Sunspot, and Alice Braga (Queen of the SouthPredatorsI Am Legend) as Dr. Cecilia Reyes. The shape-shifting alien Warlock will also appear as a CGI creation.

Finally is the long in-development Gambit film, starring Channing Tatum. Earlier today we learned the film had lost its third director, Gore Verbinski, and the studio has pushed its release date from February 14, 2019 to June 7, 2019.

The upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix does not appear to be effect by the changes and will seemingly still be released on November 2 of this year.
