Duncan Jones Plans Ian Fleming Biopic

With James Bond celebrating 50 years on the big screen and gearing up for a third Daniel Craig led outing, Skyfall, on November 9th, K5 Films, PalmStar Media Capital and Liberty Films are planning a biopic of his creator, Ian Fleming, to which Variety reports that Duncan Jones is now attached to direct.

Planned in conjunction with the Fleming estate, the film (currently operating under the working title of Fleming) will be based on the 1996 biography “Ian Fleming: The Man Behind James Bond,” officially described as follows:

Sportsman, womanizer, naval commander, world-traveler, and spy, the creator of the Cold War’s archetypal secret agent was infinitely more complex and interesting than his iconic fictional character, Agent 007. Fleming’s wide-ranging and exciting life inevitably provided the plausible backdrop for his Bond novels. Highly regarded in British naval intelligence for his international contacts, he master-minded numerous top secret operations, including “Golden Eye”, which is uncovered here for the first time. He was also fundamental in shaping the prototype CIA. Two months before his wedding to Ann O’Neill, the widow of a friend with whom he’d carried on a passionate affair for fifteen years, Fleming sat down to write his first book, “Casino Royale”, in order to soothe his nerves. Thus began the long line of Bond novels for which he would earn lasting fame.

Jones, who previously directed Moon and Source Code, will begin production on the film later this year.

K5 Film’s Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur, PalmStar Media Capital’s Kevin Frakes and Liberty Films’ Stuart Fenegan will produce the film in association with Jim Young of Animus Films and Robert Laycock of the Ian Fleming Estate.
