Exclusive: James McTeigue on Message From the King & Ness/Capone

ShockTillYouDrop.com managing editor Ryan Turek had a chance to talk to The Raven director James McTeigue (V For Vendetta) about his upcoming projects, which include Message From the King and Ness/Capone

He’s currently trying to cast the revenge thriller Message From the King, telling the site a bit more about its setting:

“This story puts me in modern-day L.A. There haven’t been a lot of movies that do modern-day Los Angeles justice. ‘Drive, for example, really felt like that was the Valley for me, more like a Paul Thomas Anderson movie. This is more like what the general populace knows about L.A. This movie puts the character into Los Angeles and he doesn’t understand Los Angeles or care for it, either. He just knows the city has murdered his sister and he wants to find out why. It’s about him traversing his way through the city and make sense of what happened to her.”

“Then there’s the Eliot Ness and Al Capone project,” he continued. “Capone was only 30 and Ness was 26 when they were chasing each other around Chicago. This movie is about as far away from ‘The Untouchables’ as you can get. It’s more [Michael Mann’s] ‘Heat.’ It’s about two men who want the same thing but are on opposite sides of the law. Michael Mann’s made a whole career around that. It’s called ‘Ness/Capone’ at the moment, but that will probably change.”

Look for the full interview with McTeigue over on ShockTillYouDrop.com sometime next week, as well as interviews with the cast of The Raven, which opens on Friday, April 27.
