William Monahan to Direct Mojave

Atlas Independent, the newly-formed affiliate company of Charles Roven’s Atlas Entertainment, announced their fourth project today: William Monahan’s original thriller Mojave.

Monahan will direct from his original screenplay and produce alongside Atlas Independent’s William Green. Atlas’ Andy Horwitz and Alan Glazer will executive produce with Henceforth Pictures’ Justine Suzanne Jones.

“Working with Chuck Roven and Atlas is perfection from my point of view, and has already led to a brilliant ongoing relationship,” said Monahan. “It’s the strongest possible company and they’re specifically in the business of protecting quality work. Atlas and I have decided to do a lot of work together and here we go.”

“This script is Monahan at his absolute finest,” said Atlas Independent producer William Green. “We’re honored that he chose Atlas Independent for this collaboration.”

A dramatist, director and novelist, Monahan recently completed the screenplay The Gambler for Martin Scorsese and producer Irwin Winkler at Paramount. In 2006, Monahan won the Academy Award and Writers Guild of America Award for his second produced screenplay, The Departed, which earned a total of four Oscars, including Best Picture. His company, Henceforth Pictures, is involved in motion picture and television production in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Production for Mojave will begin August 2012 in Southern California.
