Full Cast Announced for Guillaume Canet’s Blood Ties

James Caan, Marion Cotillard, Bill Crudup, Mila Kunis, Clive Owen and Zoe Saldana have joined the cast of Guillame Canet’s Blood Ties. The Hollywood Reporter has word that they’ll star in the crime thriller.

Based on the novel “Les liens du sang” by Bruno and Michel Papet, the story is set in the 1970’s and follows two brothers on opposite sides of the law. Crudup will play the younger, a cop (named Francois in the novel), with Owen starring as the older, a just-paroled convict (in the novel named Gabriel). Though he’s struggling to stay away from his former life, the older brother is forced to return to the criminal underworld to help his sibling. To make matters worse, the younger brother is still in love with the wife of a criminal that he helped put away.

The film was previously adapted for the screen in French and released under the English-language title Rivals in 2008. Canet (who is the husband of Cotillard) starred in that film in the Francois role. In this version, he’s behind the camera, directing solo and writing alongside James Grey (We Own the Night).
