Rosemarie DeWitt Finds Gus Van Sant’s Promised Land

Rosemarie DeWitt has landed the female lead in The Promised Land, the upcoming drama from director Gus Van Sant. Deadline has word that the Rachel Getting Married star will star opposite Matt Damon and John Krasinksi.

First announced last fall, the drama is based on an idea formulated between Krasinski and author/screenwriter Dave Eggers (“A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius,” Away We Go, Where the Wild Things Are).

Back in October of last year, Damon himself was planning to make the film his directorial debut. Now he’s slated to both star and he wrote the screenplay alongside Krasinski (rewriting a draft by Eggers). The plot is said to feature both acting talents as rival executives, one of which (Damon’s character) has his life turned around when he arrives in a small town.

DeWitt can be seen later this summer in Neighborhood Watch. The Promised Land is set up at Focus Features and Participant Media and production is slated to begin this April.
