The Purge 4 Director Will be Burning Sands’ Gerard McMurray

According to The Hollywood ReporterUniversal Pictures has found a Purge 4 director in Gerard McMurray, who helmed the Sundance favorite hazing drama Burning Sands that debuted on Netflix in March. Titled The Purge: The Island, the fourth installment will be released on Wednesday, July 4, 2018.

The screenplay for the fourquel has been written by James DeMonaco, writer/director of The PurgeThe Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year.

“I have not seen a film as confidently directed in a long time as ‘Burning Sands’ and I’m excited to see Gerard’s own expression of ‘The Purge’ world,” DeMonaco said.

Coming off the most successful film in the series, The Purge: Election Year, creator DeMonaco returns alongside the producers of this worldwide phenomenon: Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum (Insidious series, Get Out, Split), Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Ouija series, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), and DeMonaco’s longtime production partner, Sébastien K. Lemercier (Assault on Precinct 13, Four Lovers).

Blumhouse Television is also developing a Purge TV series with Universal Cable Productions and franchise creator DeMonaco, with the series set to air on both USA and Syfy.
