Invasion of the Body Snatchers Remake Gets Conjuring Writer

It seems as if Hollywood just can’t stop remaking Invasion of the Body Snatchers. According to Deadline, Warner Bros. Pictures has hired hot screenwriter David Leslie Johnson of The Conjuring 2 and the in-development Conjuring 3 and Dungeons & Dragons to pen the latest Body Snatchers remake.

Jack Finney’s sci-fi novel, about alien pod people who make perfect duplicates of humans, was originally made in 1956 by director Don Siegel during the height of the Red Scare in America. In 1978, filmmaker Philip Kaufman made a hit paranoia-laced remake also titled Invasion of the Body Snatchers and starring Donald Sutherland. Abel Ferrara’s 1993 version Body Snatchers did not fare so well at all, and the 2007 version titled The Invasion, starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, was a disaster even after expensive reshoots supervised by The Wachowskis.

Warner Bros. made both the recent Body Snatchers and The Invasion, but hopefully the third time’s the charm for this classic property. John Davis of the Predator franchise (including forthcoming The Predator) will produce.
