Disney Teases Toy Story 4 and Frozen 2 Title at D23 Expo

Disney teases Toy Story 4 and Frozen 2 title at D23 Expo

Disney•Pixar‘s own John Lasseter took to the Hall D23 stage at D23 Expo to make some announcements about the upcoming animation slate from the studio.

Up first, Lasseter revealed that the upcoming Frozen 2 will have a brand-new title when it arrives in theaters in 2019, but for now they’re just calling the sequel Frozen 2. Lasseter revealed they considered having the Frozen 2 title be in the film’s native Norwegian, but upon translation those suggestions turned into Frozen To or Frozen Toe and they decided to move on.

Directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, and produced by Peter Del Vecho, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ feature-length follow-up to 2013’s Oscar-winning film Frozen is slated for theaters on November 27, 2019. Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, Idina Menzel and Jonathan Groff are reprising their roles in an all-new story. Lasseter, Bell and Gad shared with Frozen fans a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the filmmakers’ recent research trip to Norway, Finland and Iceland.

There was also a new song from the upcoming Frozen holiday featurette, “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” titled “That Time of Year,” written by Elyssa Samsel and Kate Anderson and performed by Gad on stage. The song is part of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ new 21-minute featurette, which hits the big-screen in front of Disney•Pixar’s Coco on Nov. 22, 2017.

Finally, Lasseter revealed that Josh Cooley (Riley’s First Date? short) would be the sole director of the upcoming Toy Story 4, which Lasseter was previously slated to co-direct. The pair also screened a behind-the-scenes look at a day in the director’s life at the Northern California studio. Included in the video was a reveal of the first recorded line of dialogue from the film with an actor who has been in all the Toy Story movies, revealing Pixar’s Jeff Pidgeon inhaling helium and going “oooo” for the Pizza Planet alien. Produced by Jonas Rivera (Inside Out), Toy Story 4 is slated for release on June 21, 2019.
