Joe Carnahan Plans Death Wish Remake

A remake of the 1974 revenge classic Death Wish has been on the table for some time, originally planned for Sylvester Stallone to both star and direct. Now, The LA Times reveals that Joe Carnahan has been hired by Paramount and MGM to both write and direct a wholly different take on the project.

Charles Bronson starred in the original film (in turn based on a 1972 novel by the same name) as a New York man who turns vigilante following the murder of his wife. The original Death Wish received four sequels (all of which starred Bronson) over the course of the next two decades.

Carnahan is coming off the critical and box office success of this weekend’s The Grey, featuring his second teaming with leading man Liam Neeson.
