First Man Movie Adds Kyle Chandler and Corey Stoll

Corey Stoll and Kyle Chandler have joined the cast of Damien Chazelle’s First Man movie

Two more key roles have been cast for director Damien Chazelle’s La La Land follow-up. The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that Corey Stoll (Ant-Man, The Strain) and Kyle Chandler (Super 8, Friday Night Lights) have joined his First Man movie, a biopic of Neil Armstrong. The project reunites Chazelle with leading man Ryan Gosling (The Nice Guys, Drive). Stoll will play fellow Apollo 11 astronaut Edwin “Buzz” E. Aldrin, Jr., while Chandler has been cast as Deke Slayton. Slayton, one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts, was responsible for assembling the Apollo 11 crew. An actor has yet to be announced for the part of the third Apollo 11 astronaut, Michael Collins.

Universal Pictures release, First Man is based on James Hansen’s biography “First Man: A Life Of Neil A. Armstrong,” the riveting story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969. Described as “a visceral, first-person account”, the movie aims to explore the sacrifices and the cost—on Armstrong and on the nation—of one of the most dangerous missions in history.

Written by Academy Award winner Josh Singer (Spotlight), the First Man movie will be produced by Wyck Godfrey & Marty Bowen (The Twilight Saga, The Fault in Our Stars) through their Temple Hill Entertainment banner, alongside Chazelle and Gosling. Isaac Klausner (The Fault in Our Stars) will executive produce. DreamWorks Pictures is co-financing the film.

First Man is targeting an October 12, 2018 release.
