Spider-Man Producer Calls Venom, Silver and Black ‘Adjunct’ to Homecoming

Ever since Sony Pictures announced plans for their own Venom and Black Cat/Silver Sable films, it was clear that they wouldn’t be within the continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige even further hammered it home last week, telling AlloCiné:

“For now, there is no plan for Venom in the MCU. It’s a Sony Project.”

Now, however, Spider-Man: Homecoming producer and former head of Sony Amy Pascal has made things a little more complicated. Speaking with Filmstarts, she was asked about the Venom and Black Cat/Silver Sable features and said:

“Well, those movies will all take place in the world that we’re now creating for Peter Parker. They’ll be adjuncts to it, they may be different locations, but it will still all be in the same world and they will be connected to each other as well.”

When asked if Tom Holland’s Spider-Man could appear in the Sony’s Marvel Universe films, she replied: “There’s always a chance!”

The upcoming Venom movie will see director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad) behind the camera, with actor Tom Hardy playing the titular anti-hero. Production is set to begin this fall for an October 5, 2018 release date. Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love and Basketball, The Secret Life of Bees) has been tapped to direct Silver and Black, which will pair up Silver Sable and Black Cat.

Star Tom Holland is already confirmed to appear in Avengers: Infinity War with two more Spider-Man films already planned. It remains to be seen how these “adjunct” movies will ever interact with the other films or if they will take a similar path to the likes of Marvel’s Netflix shows and feature barebones references to the larger MCU.
