Jason Momoa on Setting the Tone for Aquaman

Jason Momoa was only seen briefly as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but on November 17, he’s got a much bigger role in the highly-anticipated Justice League. That will be followed by his own Aquaman movie on December 21, 2018.

Talking to GQ, Jason Momoa talked about how great it is bringing a character to the big screen that hasn’t been seen in before in previous iterations.

“We’ve never really seen anything from this guy before, so it’s fun to have a level playing field,” Momoa said. “There aren’t like four Aquamans before me. I get to set the tone for it.”

So what can we expect? “The guy was never really accepted on land, and he was never really accepted in Atlantis. He’s a half-breed. But he’s the best of both worlds. He just doesn’t know how to handle his powers. So it’s kind of a coming of age for a young man to a man, or a man to a king. He’s lost a lot of things and he’s got to cope. He’s an outsider.”

Jason Momoa is joined in Aquaman by Amber Heard as Mere, Queen of Atlantis,  Nicole Kidman as Aquaman’s mother, Atlanna, Temuera Morrison as Aquaman’s father, Patrick Wilson as Aquaman’s brother, Orm (aka Ocean Master), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, and Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus. James Wan is directing.
