Taissa Farmiga Joins Conjuring Spinoff The Nun

Taissa Farmiga is the latest to join the cast of The Conjuring spinoff The Nun

The Nun, the upcoming spinoff of Warner Bros. PicturesThe Conjuring franchise, has set Taissa Farmiga in the title role. Deadline has the news, reporting that the actress, the younger sister of The Conjuring‘s Vera Farmiga, will headline the Corin Hardy film alongside the previously-announced Demian Bichir (The Hateful Eight, Weeds).

“Welcome @taissafarmiga to the family!” James Wan posted of the casting on Twitter. “Goal is to work with all the Farmigas. @VeraFarmiga #TheNun #talentedsiblings”

The Nun is the second spinoff to come from The Conjuring series, following in the footsteps of Annabelle, which will see its prequel film Annabelle: Creation hit theaters August 11, 2017. What makes this spinoff perhaps so remarkable is that The Nun character was a late addition to last year’s The Conjuring 2, but was quickly a favorite by horror fans and was announced to have her own feature film in development just one week after The Conjuring 2 opened. The Conjuring films and Annabelle have already earned a combined $895 million worldwide with a combined budget of just $66.5 million across the three films.

Corin Hardy, who previously directed the animated short Butterfly, music videos, and horror film The Hallow, will direct the film from a script by Gary Dauberman and James Wan. The Nun will shoot this summer in Romania and debut in theaters July 13, 2018.

Taissa Farmiga was recently seen in Warren Beatty’s Rules Don’t Apply and lent her voice to the character Raven in last week’s original DC Comics animated feature, Teen Titans: The Judas Contract. She can be seen coming up in director Stacie Passon’s adaptation of the 1962 mystery novel We Have Always Lived in the Castle.
