Legendary Creates MonsterVerse Writer’s Room for Godzilla vs King Kong

THR brings word that Legendary Pictures has assembled a “writer’s room” for the upcoming Godzilla vs King Kong movie, set for a 2020 release.

Terry Rossio, co-writer of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise (who also holds story credit on 1998’s Godzilla), will lead the room along with Star Trek Beyond and Star Trek 4 writers Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne. The writer’s room also includes The Kingkiller Chronicles writer Lindsey Beer, Queen of the Air writer Cat Vasko, Maze Runner and Pacific Rim: Uprising writer T.S. Nowlin, and comic and television writer J. Michael Straczynski. No director is currently attached to Godzilla vs King Kong.

Kong: Skull Island is the most recent entry in the MonsterVerse, the second chapter following 2014’s Godzilla. The next will be Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which has Krampus and Trick ‘r Treat director Michael Dougherty set to helm with Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobby Brown attached to star. It will be released in theaters on March 22, 2019.

Writer’s rooms have become a studio favorite for cinematic universes, with Paramount putting together two in the past few years, one for Transformers and another for their other Hasbro-based properties. Universal Studios has also created one in the past for their own Classic Monsters universe.
