Universal Puts Ouija Adaptation Into Turnaround

Universal Pictures has dropped another big project following Clue and The Dark Tower.

Vulture reports that the studio has put Hasbro’s Ouija into turnaround. The adaptation was to be directed by McG and produced by Michael Bay. This means Universal will have to pay Hasbro a $5 million penalty for dropping a project as laid out in their 2008 deal.

Ouija was previously said to be one of four Hasbro adaptations that Universal was still interested in, with the others being Battleship (in theaters May 18), Stretch Armstrong and Candy Land.

It’s not clear what happened with Ouija, which recently got a new draft from screenwriter Simon Kinberg.

Vulture adds that McG and Bay are now taking meetings with other studios, though Paramount Pictures has reportedly passed on the project.
