Arnold Schwarzenegger Plans Last Stand

Earlier in the year it was reported that Arnold Schwarzenegger had his sights set on a number of projects, including the western The Last Stand. Though it was suggested in light of recent events that the actor might not appear after all, Deadline reports that the project is moving forward with Schwarzenegger in the lead.

The film is the first American film from Kim-ji-Woon (I Saw the Devil, The Good, The Bad, The Weird) and tells the story of an American sheriff battling against a Mexican drug cartel. In a recent interview with ComingSoon.net, Jee-woon described the project as follows:

“[I]t’s kind of a combination of ‘Die Hard’ and ‘High Noon’ where (the latter) was about protecting something very important that needs to be protected, while ‘Die Hard’ is a very drawn-out, long process that almost kills someone in the process. So my film will be something that has to be very well protected and, in the process, we almost die protecting it in a way.”

If all goes according to plan, The Last Stand will begin shooting this September.
