Tonya Harding Movie Sets Sebastian Stan Opposite Margot Robbie

Sebastian Stan is joining Margot Robbie in the upcoming Tonya Harding movie I, Tonya

Marvel‘s Winter Soldier is teaming up with DC Comics‘ Harley Quinn for the all-too-true story of a very different bat-wielding criminal. Deadline reports that Sebatian Stan has joined the cast of I, Tonya, the upcoming Tonya Harding biopic from director Craig Gillespie (The Finest Hours, Lars and the Real Girl). Stan will play Tonya Harding’s former husband-turned-partner in crime Jeff Gillooly.

The Tonya Harding biopic’s script originated as a spec by Steven Rogers, the scribe behind big-screen fare like Kate & Leopold and Love the Coopers. Rogers’ script is based on firsthand interviews with the real Harding and Gillooly.

I, Tonya aims to shine a light on the infamous 1994 incident wherein the Olympic figure skater was connected to an attack on skating rival Nancy Kerrigan. Kerrigan was attacked by a hired thug following a practice session in Detroit. Although the intent was to break Kerrigan’s leg, the skater was only bruised and went on to significantly outperform Harding in the Olympics. Following the event, Harding was prosecuted for the attack alongside Gillooly and several additional parties.

Sebastian Stan was last on the big screen in Disney‘s recent Captain America: Civil War. He’s next set to headline the dramatic thriller We Have Always Lived in the Castle. You can explore photos from the set of that project in the gallery viewer below.
