Ray Winstone Joins Snow White and the Huntsman

Following yesterday’s casting news comes word, via The Hollywood Reporter, that Ray Winstone is set to round out the ensemble talent that will play the seven dwarfs in Snow White and the Hunstman.

The revisionist take on the classic fairy tale is being directed by Rupert Sanders, and it already has Kristen Stewart playing Snow White, Charlize Theron playing her evil stepmother, and Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman.

Winstone will play a dwarf named Trajan, joining Ian McShane (Caesar), Eddie Izzard (Tiberius), Bob Hoskins (Constantine), Toby Jones (Claudius), Eddie Marsan (Hadrian) and Stephen Graham (Nero) in the dwarf septet, which will likely make use of special effects to shrink the talent.

The storyline is said to feature an expanded role for the Huntsman. In the fairy tale, he is ordered to take Snow White into the woods and kill her, but instead lets her go. In the new take, the Huntsman acts more as a mentor, teaching Snow White to fight and survive.

The Universal release is set to enter production soon, aiming for a release on June 1, 2012.
