First Photos from the Set of Pacific Rim: Maelstrom

Production is in full swing on the upcoming Pacific Rim: Maelstrom and Sydney, Australia’s The Daily Telegraph has managed to snap the first set photos! Featuring star John Boyega, you can check them out below and see even more by clicking here (via Comic Book).

Boyega is set to play the son of Stacker Pentecost (the Idris Elba role in the original film) in the sequel. He’s joined by Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian and Levi Meaden.

Pacific Rim: Maelstrom will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight (SpartacusMarvel’s Daredevil) based on the world created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham and from a script by Jurassic World co-writer Derek Connolly. Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni, and del Toro will produce the action adventure film along with Boyega and Femi Oguns under their Upper Room Productions shingle. Cale Boyter will serve as the film’s executive producer.

The film will be distributed by Universal Pictures around the world with the exception of China. Pacific Rim: Maelstrom will arrive in theaters on February 23, 2018.

The original Pacific Rim hit theaters in summer 2013 and grossed $101 million at the domestic box office. It went on to take in over $411 million worldwide. The first one starred Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman.
