John Hlavin Takes Risk

Columbia Pictures, Hasbro and Overbrook Entertainment have brought aboard screenwriter John Hlavin for their upcoming film adaptation of the classic board game, Risk.

First announced in late 2009, the adaptation will bring to the screen the game’s global battle for world domination.

“Hasbro has already seen tremendous success with ‘Transformers’ and ‘G.I. Joe’,” said Columbia President Doug Belgrad when development started, “and audiences have shown a great desire for films that bring to life everything that has made these franchise properties stand the test of time. The strategic thinking and the tactical gambles that players must take in the game are what make ‘Risk’ a classic, thoroughly engaging game. Those elements translated into an action-packed, thrilling story are what will make this a uniquely exciting movie.”

Hlavin is known for his TV work, contributing episodes to “The Shield” and “Trust Me.” He also provided the script for the upcoming Underworld: New Dawn, arriving in theaters on January 20, 2012.
