Paramount Plans The New Kid

Paramount Pictures is developing an animated adaptation of the Penny Arcade comic strip The New Kid, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter.

The strip, created by Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins, tells the science fiction tale of Sol, a young boy living with his father in outer space. He winds up attending a new school populated entirely by aliens.

Upon the strip’s debut last October, Krahulik posted the following prophetic message:

“Being the new kid is hard, being the new kid in a school full of aliens is harder. [Mike] mentioned that this one could be the biggest thing we ever do and I think he’s right. My fantasy is to see Dreamworks, Disney or Nickelodeon make an animated feature or a Saturday morning cartoon out of this one. Who knows maybe they will see it and give me a call!”

Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli) has come aboard to adapt the strip for Paramount with producers Cale Boyter and Mary Parent.
