The Walt Disney Studios sets new international box office record
2016 is now The Walt Disney Studios’ best year ever at the international box office with $3.566 billion through October 16, surpassing Disney’s previous record year of $3.565 billion set in 2015.
Earlier this year, on July 6, Disney set a new industry record for reaching the $3 billion threshold internationally, having also set new industry records for reaching $2 billion domestic (July 16) and $5 billion global (July 10). Disney’s 2016 international box office has been driven by films from across the Studios’ brands, representing the industry’s top four global and top three international releases of the year.
· Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War has earned $1.15B, including $745M internationally; it is the #1 film of the year internationally and globally.
In addition, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which debuted in December 2015, brought in $452.4M of its $1.13B international total in 2016.
