Derek Cianfrance Heads to The Place Beyond the Pines

Derek Cianfrance, the writer/director of last year’s Blue Valentine, has found backing for his next project, The Place Beyond the Pines. Variety reports that Sidney Kimmel Entertainment will produce the original screenplay and that Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper are likely to star.

Gosling is said to already be attached to the project in the role of a motorcycle rider who, after having a child, begins robbing banks to support the baby. Cooper has been offered (but has not signed on) for the part of a rookie cop who goes up against Gosling’s character.

Gosling, who played the lead in Blue Valentine, has a whole slate of projects lined up, including Drive, Crazy, Stupid, Love. and The Ides of March. He’s also slated to play the lead in a big-screen reboot of Logan’s Run. Cooper, meanwhile, can next be seen in The Hangover Part II and is rumored for two major Relativity projects, The Crow and Paradise Lost.
