Michael Chernus Cast as Villain The Tinkerer in Spider-Man: Homecoming

Deadline reports that Michael Chernus (Orange Is the New Black) has joined the ever-growing cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming but on the side of evil, as Phineas Mason, aka The Tinkerer. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the character made his debut in “The Amazing Spider-Man” #2 all the way back in 1963. In the series, the character runs a shop designing gadgets and tech for supervillains and criminals behind the facade of a radio repair shop. Notable Spider-Man villains that he’s helped out include Mysterio, Scorpion, Black Cat, and many more.

Tom Holland reprises the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man he first played in Captain America: Civil War, and is joined by Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Michael Keaton as the Vulture, Logan Marshall-Green as a secondary villain, Kenneth Choi as Peter’s high school Principal, and Zendaya as a character by the name of Michelle. The film also stars Donald Glover, Martin Starr, Michael Barbieri, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Angourie Rice, Jacob Batalon, Tyne Daly, and Bokeem Woodbine.

In the film, a young Peter Parker/Spider-Man begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging superhero.

Scripted by Vacation writers and directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, Spider-Man: Homecoming will, according to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, feature characters from throughout the MCU. Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Homecoming will open in regular theaters and IMAX on July 7, 2017.
