DreamWorks Acquires Genneris , Fox Takes Shatter Me

Variety is reporting on two deals today.

First up, DreamWorks has acquired Nic Kelman’s original spec script Genneris. The studio is keeping the storyline under wraps, but it is said to be a high-concept sci-fi film.

20th Century Fox has picked up the rights to the upcoming novel “Shatter Me” by Tahereh Mafi. Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark will produce the project through Fox-based Chernin Entertainment.

The trade says the novel, set in a dystopian world, “is the story of a 17-year-old girl imprisoned for possessing a fatal touch. As she watches everything crumble around her, she must choose between relinquishing her power or use it to save the world.”
