Director Gary Ross’ adaptation of the bestselling Suzanne Collins novel, The Hunger Games, may have its first star lined up. Variety is reporting that Jennifer Lawrence is close to a lock for the leading role of Katniss.
The film, targeted for a PG-13 rating, is based on the science fiction novel. Aimed at young adults, the book tells the tale of dystopic future and the annual “Hunger Games,” a fight to the death on live television.
Lawrence, who has long been rumored for the part, recently received an Academy Award Nomination for her role in Winter’s Bone. She is next set to appear as Mystique in X-Men: First Class.
The Hunger Games is set for release on March 23, 2012.
