Entertainment Weekly talked to Rock of Ages producer Jenno Topping, who confirmed rumors that Tom Cruise is in discussions for a role in the film.
“It’s real,” the producer said. “Although, it is not cemented.”
The magazine also heard from Gwyneth Paltrow that she has been offered a role in Adam Shankman’s big screen adaptation of the Broadway musical.
“It sounds cool,” she said, “I just got the script and I will read it on the plane home tomorrow. But it sounds like it could be fun.”
The musical centers on two people who meet at the Sunset Strip club Rock of Ages, fall in love and try to stay together amid ’80s rock anthems.
Mary J. Blige was previously reported to be in talks for a role as well.
The musical’s creator, Chris D’Arienzo, wrote the adaptation. Carl Levin, Matt Weaver, Scott Prisand, Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Gibgot will produce, and Janet Billig and Hillary Weaver are executive producers.
