Pacino to Play Phil Spector

Al Pacino has signed on to play Phil Spector in a currently untitled biopic to be written and directed by David Mamet for HBO, says a report at The New York Times.

Spector, a record producer famous for developing projects with a heavily layered “Wall of Sound”, was involved with releases from The Ramones, The Righteous Brother and The Beatles, among many others. Over the past decade, Spector was tried and convicted of the murder of actress Lana Clarkson for which he is currently incarcerated.

Pacino has worked with Mamet a number of times in the past, most famously in 1992’s Glengarry Glen Ross.
