Tom Vaughan Signs on for Boomsday

Tom Vaughan has signed on to direct Boomsday, based on the novel by Thank You for Smoking‘s Christopher Buckley, reports Variety.

The novel, published in 2008, tells the story of Cassandra Devine, a late-night blogger who counters the impending financial crisis (caused by Baby Boomers, hence the titular Boomsday) with a posting that satirically suggests that senior citizens kill themselves. The post quickly gains more exposure than Devine had intended and becomes the focus point for Massachusetts Senator Randy Jepperson’s political campaign, which also has the effect of drawing Devine in romantically.

Ron Bass and Jen Smolka will adapt the novel with production aimed to begin in in spring of 2011.
