WB to Make Movie Set During the 1900 Galveston, TX Hurricane

Risky Business is reporting that screenwriter Daniel Sussman and producer Polly Johnsen are planning to make a movie about the 1900 Galveston, Texas hurricane.

Warner Bros. has bought the script for the drama that would center on the Category 4 hurricane (this was before hurricanes were named) that made landfall on Sept. 8, 1900 with winds of 135 miles per hour and caused the death of 8,000 people, the third-highest number of casualties of any Atlantic hurricane.

The site says that “Sussman’s script traces the stories of a pair of young lovers on the verge of being separated, a struggle for power among various bureaucracies and a bitter love triangle involving two brothers.”
