Owen Wilson Joins the Wonder Cast

Owen Wilson is joining Julia Roberts and Jacob Tremblay in the Wonder cast

In development for some time, Lionsgate is moving forward with their feature film adaptation of R.J. Palacio‘s bestselling novel, Wonder. The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that Owen Wilson is set to join the Wonder cast opposite Julia Roberts and Jacob Tremblay, the nine-year-old star who recently received acclaim for his performance opposite Brie Larson in Lenny Abrahamson’s Room.

Wonder, released in February 2012, is officially described as follows:

August (Auggie) Pullman was born with a facial deformity that prevented him from going to a mainstream school—until now. He’s about to start 5th grade at Beecher Prep, and if you’ve ever been the new kid then you know how hard that can be. The thing is Auggie’s just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face. But can he convince his new classmates that he’s just like them, despite appearances?

Roberts and Wilson will play the parents of Auggie (Tremblay).

Nominated for an Academy Award for his work alongside Wes Anderson on the script to 2001’s The Royal Tenenbaums, Wilson reprised his Zoolander role as male model Hansel for the comedy’s sequel, released earlier this year. He can next be seen in Jared Hess’ crime comedy Masterminds, starring opposite Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, Ken Marino and Jason Sudeikis. Relativity Media will release the film in theaters September 30. It is also suspected (but not yet confirmed) that Wilson will again lend his voice to racecar Lightning McQueen in next summer’s Cars 3.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower director Stephen Chbosky is directing Wonder, which features an adapted screenplay by Jack Thorne and Steve Conrad. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are attached to produce. Check back for updates on the Wonder cast as they become available.
