Vera Farmiga Joins Liam Neeson in The Commuter

Between her excellent work on A&E‘s ever-popular Bates Motel and the recent box office hit The Conjuring 2, Vera Farmiga is at the peak of her powers right now. It makes sense then that Deadline is reporting that Lionsgate and StudioCanal have picked her to co-star with Liam Neeson in the suspense thriller The Commuter. It will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, best known for his recent trilogy of Neeson thrillers (Unknown, Non-Stop, Run All Night), and who also directed Farmiga in his 2009 film Orphan.

In The Commuter, Neeson will play a businessman whose daily commute home gets him caught up in a criminal conspiracy as he learns of a deadly plan unfolding on the train. Farmiga will play a mysterious woman who gives Neeson an enticing and deadly offer.

The screenplay was written by Byron Willinger and Phil de Blasi, with production expected to begin later this summer. The Picture Company’s Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman are producing the film, with Serra executive producing along with his Ombra Films partner Juan Sola.

Farmiga will be a part of the fifth and final season of “Bates Motel,” which will recount the events of Robert Bloch and Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. She will also star in the indie features Burn Your Maps and Boundaries, and given the box office for The Conuring 2 is very likely to portray Lorraine Warren in at least one more Conjuring movie in the future.
