Bubbles: Dan Harmon to Produce Stop Motion Michael Jackson Chimp Movie

Dan Harmon will produce Bubbles, a Michael Jackson biopic told from the point of view of the musician’s chimp, as a stop-motion feature

After topping the 2015 Black List, screenwriter Isaac Adamson‘s Bubbles has found its path to the big screen. Deadline reports that the project, a Michael Jackson biopic that tells the life story of the King of Pop from the point of view of the musician’s chimpanzee, will be produced by Dan Harmon. Harmon’s credits range from creating Community and co-creating Rick and Morty (with Justin Roiland) to executive producing Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson’s recent Academy Award-nominated AnomalisaBubbles will move forward as a feature film at Starburns Industries, the animation studio responsible for Anomalisa (as well as for Rick and Morty and Community‘s own impressive second season stop-motion Christmas episode).

When it hit the Black List last year, Bubbles featured the following official synopsis:

A baby chimp is adopted by the Pop star Michael Jackson. Narrating his own story, Bubbles the Chimp details his life within The King of Pop’s inner circle through the scandals that later rocked Jackson’s life and eventually led to Bubbles’ release.

Although Community appears to have come to an end (at least as a television series), Ricky and Morty will be back on Adult Swim later this year for its third season.

Bubbles scribe Isaac Adamson will executive produce the feature alongside Lee Stobby, while End Cue‘s Andrew Kortschak will produce alongside Dan Harmon.

If you haven’t had to chance to check out Anomalisa, you should know that it hit Digital HD this week (the Blu-ray will follow on May 3) and you can click here to check out interview with Anomalisa directors Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson.
