Octavia Spencer (Halloween II) has landed a lead role in DreamWork Pictures’ The Help.
She’s joining Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Lowell in the drama, written and directed by Tate Taylor.
The film is an adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s best-selling novel, set in Jackson, Mississippi in the early 1960s. The story explores how the unspoken code of behavior governing Southern households is shattered when an aspiring writer (Stone) interviews a maid (Davis), who speaks candidly about her experiences. The interview sets off shock waves that reverberate across the entire community.
