Seth Rogen’s R-rated animated Sausage Party to debut at SXSW

SXSW has announced that Sony Pictures Entertainment and Annapurna Pictures’ Sausage Party, the new R-rated animated comedy from writers Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir, will debut as a work-in-progress cut at this year’s festival on Monday, March 14 at 9:15pm at the Paramount Theatre. The Austin, Texas screening will be far in advance of the film’s theatrical bow on August 12, and will be an all-badges event. Check out the full debut image from the film in our gallery below!

Last year actor David Krumholtz, who plays the Armenian Flatbread character seen above on the right, told us his lofty predictions for Sausage Party.

“It might be the funniest movie of all-time,” said Krumholtz. “It was the funniest script I’ve ever read, and the stuff I’ve seen is just absolutely brilliant. I can’t wait for people to see it, and it’s R-rated but man, I’ll tell ya, it’s a loose NC-17. It’s pretty out there.”

Sausage Party is a raunchy animated movie about one sausage’’s quest to discover the truth about his existence. After falling out of a shopping cart, our hero sausage and his new friends embark on a perilous journey through the supermarket to get back to their aisles before the 4th of July sale.

From a story by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Jonah Hill, Sausage Party is directed by Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan. The film features the voices of Rogen and Hill as well as Kristen Wiig, Salma Hayek, Edward Norton, David Krumholtz, Nick Kroll, Michael Cera, James Franco, Craig Robinson, Bill Hader, Anders Holm, Paul Rudd and Danny McBride.

Sausage Party is produced by Rogen, Goldberg, Vernon and Megan Ellison with Hill, Hunter, Shaffir and James Weaver executive producing. Nitrogen Studios Canada Inc., in Vancouver, will handle all CG animation, design, production and post-production.
