Immortals is the Official Title for War of Gods

Relativity Media announced today that Immortals will be the official title of its Greek mythology tale previously called “War of Gods.”

Immortals follows the mythological tale of the young warrior Theseus, who leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat evil and the powerful elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind. Tarsem Singh directs the film that began shooting in Montreal this week.

It was also officially announced that John Hurt and Isabel Lucas have joined Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorff, Luke Evans, Kellan Lutz, Joseph Morgan, Freida Pinto and Mickey Rourke in the cast. Hurt will portray the earthly manifestation of the god Zeus, who acts as a mentor and teacher to the young warrior Theseus (Cavill). Isabel Lucas was brought onto Immortals as Athena, the daughter of Zeus who finds her loyalty tested as the war between the gods and Titans looms.

Distributed by Universal Pictures, Immortals will be produced by 300 partners Gianni Nunnari of Hollywood Gang Productions, Mark Canton of Atmosphere Entertainment MM and Ryan Kavanaugh, CEO of Relativity Media. Jason Keller penned the most recent draft of the script. An earlier version was written by Christian Gudegast, based on an original screenplay by Charley and Vlas Parlapanides.

Universal Pictures has set a November 11, 2011, release date for Immortals.
