James Cameron on ‘Terminator Genisys’: “If You Like the ‘Terminator’ Films, You’re Going to Love This Movie”

There it is folks, the endorsement that will surely get everyone second guessing every negative thing they’ve said (or written) about the upcoming Terminator Genisys, an endorsement from franchise creator and the director of The Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), James Cameron.

In a newly released featurette Cameron discusses the new film, which he says he considers the third film in the franchise, and how it has reinvigorated the Terminator franchise while being very respectful of the films that came before it. Most notably he seems impressed by the idea of turning John Connor (Jason Clarke) into the villain, something that clearly shouldn’t be considered a spoiler, but merely a plot detail that guides the story.

Check out the featurette below if you’re looking to be sold on the film. I don’t see this one until June 29, only two days before the film’s release, which typically isn’t a good sign and just one more thing that continues to cause lowered expectations, but one thing is for certain, Cameron can sell a film.

When John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and safeguard the future, an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline. Now, Sgt. Reese finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past, where he is faced with unlikely allies, including the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), dangerous new enemies, and an unexpected new mission: To reset the future…
