Offensive Jokes Causing Native American Actors to Exit Adam Sandler’s Netflix Comedy Revealed

On Wednesday, approximately a dozen Native-American actors walked off the set of Adam Sandler‘s The Ridiculous Six on account of jokes which “grossly misrepresented” the Apache culture, women and their elders. Although references to characters called “No Bra” and “Beaver Breath” came into play, details were publicly scarce. As the conflict continues, however, more insights come to light.

Over at Gawker, a copy of the screenplay dated December 7, 2012 for the Netflix-housed comedy reveals details pertaining to the film in question. Keep in mind, this is not a confirmed final draft so some things may have changed, but it does contain examples of jokes, which were called offensive in the original reports.

The rundown does include examples such as references to a character named “Beaver Breath” and a Native-American woman who “squats and pisses while smoking a peace pipe,” both of which were part of the original complaint and are in this screenplay. While “No Bra” has no mention in this draft, there is a character named “Sit-On-Face.” Based on the character’s description and lines, this seems to be the origin for that character.

There are also characters named “Flaming Wolf”, “One Eyebrow”, “Five Hairy Moles” and one character which asks a character if they “go some place and I put my pee-pee in your tee-pee.”

Anyone whose followed Sandler’s career won’t be surprised to see such jokes in his film. The comedian has previously made jokes directed toward women, homosexuals, overweight individuals, incest-sharing siblings and basically anyone who doesn’t have the physical traits or mindset of Sandler himself. But it looks like he may have gone too far with the Apache community.

This, however, is not the first time he’s done such jokes. Does anyone remember when Rob Schneider played a Native-American named “Ferrari” in Bedtime Stories?

Netflix did comment on the original complaint on Thursday saying:

The movie has ridiculous in the title for a reason: because it is ridiculous. It is a broad satire of Western movies and the stereotypes they popularized, featuring a diverse cast that is not only part of — but in on — the joke.

We’ll have to wait and see what, if anything, happens next.
