‘Nightcrawler’ & ‘Hunger Games’ Stars Target Roles in ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’

It’s almost frightening to think that on top of all the Marvel and DC comic book movies are coming out, and how many casting notices (and rumors) go along with each one of those, that we also now need to add the new Star Wars Anthology of films to the list. Not only do we have a new trilogy on the way, beginning with Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens this December, but right around the corner is the first of several planned spinoff films, Rogue One. So far we know Felicity Jones will lead the feature for director Gareth Edwards (Godzilla), and Ben Mendhelson has been rumored for a part, but now it seems we have a little more movement on the film which will be arriving in theaters on Dec. 16, 2016.

The Wrap reports Riz Ahmed, partner in crime to Jake Gyllenhaal‘s Lou Bloom in last year’s Nightcrawler, is in talks for a lead role with Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2) up for a supporting role.

No word on what characters they’ll be playing, but we do know the film centers on a band of resistance fighters unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans. As we recently learned, the film is set between Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and the original 1977 Star Wars film, acting as a bridge of sorts between the two trilogies.

As for those Mendelsohn rumors, watch him skirt the question in the MTV interview below.
