Dwayne Johnson All but Confirms He’s Playing DC Comics’ Shazam

Dwayne Johnson has been rumored to play the DC Comics character Shazam for some time now and with Comic Con around the corner he gets incredibly loose-lipped in a new interview with Total Film when asked which DC Comic character he’d most like to play.

“There’s a character out there that we’re going to announce very soon, that I’m going to play,” Johnson said “I’ll just say this, he has the power of Superman, and it’s not Green Lantern, by the way. And believe me, John Stewart, he was a character I wanted to play, but there was already a version of Green Lantern, and so we’ve gone in a different direction. But this character has the power of Superman, he can throw down… Just say the word. That’s all I’m going say.”

The biggest hint is there at the end, the “just say the word” because the Shazam character, real name Billy Batson, is transformed into a magical flying adult superhero by simply saying the word, “Shazam”. As this superhero character Batson is blessed “with the genius of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the unbreakable will of Atlas, the lightning blasts of Zeus, the power of Achilles and the speed of Mercury.”

The strength of Hercules eh? Ironic isn’t it that Johnson has Hercules coming out this weekend. Check out the full interview below and I expect the announcement he’s talking about to be at Comic Con beginning this Thursday, July 24.
