Shane Black is Getting Involved with a ‘Predator’ Reboot

I’d wager a bet Shane Black is still unknown by most general movie fans despite the fact he directed the sixth highest grossing worldwide release of all-time, Iron Man 3 (yeah, Frozen just passed it). Now I’d double down on that wager when it comes to those that do know who Shane Black is, that they might not know that not only did he play the role of jokester Rick Hawkins (pictured) in John McTiernan‘s Predator, but he got the role because Fox wanted him to rewrite the film’s script. Well, they’re asking for his help on the franchise again.

THR reports Black will be reteaming with Fred Dekker (RoboCop 3) with Black writing a treatment for a Predator reboot and Dekker writing the final script. Black and Dekker worked together co-writing 1987’s The Monster Squad.

The report says Black may end up directing the film, but he’s currently putting together The Nice Guys, which may end up starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, and also still developing Doc Savage at Sony. Suffice to say, even after the massive hit that was Iron Man 3, Black isn’t rushing to anything new just yet. However, considering how long it took him to get another feature gig following the wrongful treatment of his excellent Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, it’s nice to see he has some options.

As for Black’s work in the original Predator, have a look at the not safe for work video below.
