First Pictures from ‘Jurassic World’ and News of Animatronic Dinosaurs

The first pictures from the set of Jurassic World have arrived offering looks at Bryce Dallas Howard in an unspecified lead role and a couple shots from the set.

Production of the film is underway in Hawaii and director Colin Trevorrow talks of the shoot with Entertainment Weekly saying, “Yesterday I was under a construction crane with Chris Pratt, covered with dirt, eyeballing the exact height of the dinosaur trying to kill him… We both cracked up laughing. Sometimes you just have to stop and let the joy take over.”

Trevorrow also spoke with Empire regarding the upcoming film and confirmed there will be animatronic dinosaurs used for the film and also spoke of the overall theme saying, “It’s about alpha dominance and the fact that humans have been the alpha species for a very long time, and so now we’ve brought back another that happened to be the alpha species during its time, and we have to co-exist, so what is that relationship?”

Animatronics featured heavily in Steven Spielberg‘s original Jurassic Park (watch the video to the right) and the subsequent features.

And, of course, sequels are already being discussed with Trevorrow speaking of the film’s pre-production and script development. “We definitely talked about [sequels] a lot,” he said. “We wanted to create something that would be a little bit less arbitrary and episodic, and something that could potentially arc into a series that would feel like a complete story.”

And while we don’t know much about the characters, the director did comment on the character played by Omay Sy (Intouchables) saying, “He’s essentially Chris Pratt’s best friend. They work together and have some pretty cool action scenes together. I wanted to create a relationship there that could be memorable and potentially carry on to future films.”

Set for release on Jun2 12, 2015, along with everyone mentioned above, Jurassic World co-stars Nick Robinson, Jake Johnson, Ty Simpkins and Vincent D’Onofrio.
