Tarantino Still Rewriting ‘The Hateful Eight’

While Quentin Tarantino is suing Gawker Media over their decision to link to the The Hateful Eight, the writer/director held a live-reading of the first draft last night at the Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles with a star-studded cast.

If you’ve managed to get your hands on the script, perhaps some of these character names will be familiar to you, but the actors most certainly will be as Samuel L. Jackson read the part of Major Marquis Warren, James Parks as the driver O.B., Kurt Russell as bounty hunter John Ruth, aka ‘The Hangman’, Amber Tamblyn as his prisoner Daisy Domergue, Walton Goggins as Chris Mannix, Denis Menochet as the Frenchman Bob, Tim Roth as the Englishman Oswaldo Mobray, Michael Madsen as John Gage, Bruce Dern as Confederate General Smithers, Dana Gourrier as Minnie, Zoe Bell as Six Horse Judy and James Remar as Jody reports Yahoo.

When the script leaked, Tarantino noted he’d given it to three actors — Madsen, Dern and Roth — and with all three in attendance last night it would seem there is no ill will toward the actors themselves, though I have to assume their agents aren’t exactly on Tarantino’s Christmas card list.

In addition to that, Yahoo also reports Tarantino may not have shelved the film entirely, despite saying so previously as he told those in attendance, “I’m working on a second draft and I will do a third draft but we’re reading from the first draft.” He also said the film’s fifth and final chapter – ‘Black Night, White Hell’ – has been rewritten already.

Tarantino wasn’t going to shoot the film until this coming winter, which gives him more than enough time for rewrites, casting, scouting, etc.
