How Can Old Man Schwarzenegger Star in ‘Terminator: Genesis’?

If you were wondering how Arnold Schwarzenegger would fit into the upcoming Terminator: Genesis considering he’s 11 years older than he was when he last starred in Jonathan Mostow‘s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Well, the answer is simple, a Terminator’s skin ages.

Speaking with MTV, Schwarzenegger commented on his character saying, “The way that the character is written, it’s a machine underneath. It’s this metal skeleton. But above that is human flesh. And the Terminator’s flesh ages, just like any other human being’s flesh. Maybe not as fast. But it definitely ages.”

In addition to this news, Schwarzenegger spoke of the film’s plot saying, “Terminator deals a lot with time travel, so there will be a younger T-800, and then [there’s] what that model does later on when it gets reprogrammed, and who gets hold of him. So it will be all kinds of interesting twists in the movie.”

Genesis is expected to be the first film in a new trilogy of Terminator movies. Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) is set to direct as production begins next month for a July 1, 2015 release. Co-starring alongside Schwarzenegger are Jason Clarke as John Connor, Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney (ugh) as Kyle Reese and the newest addition in J.K. Simmons playing what THR described as a “weary and alcoholic detective who has followed a bizarre case involving Sarah Connor and robots for more than three decades.”
