UPDATE: ‘Space Jam 2’ Lining Up with LeBron James

UPDATE: ESPN has posted on Twitter writing, “LeBron sources refute Deadline report, there’s no Space Jam 2 or Warner Bros. project in works.” While the tweet is rather definitive, this could also just mean James hasn’t yet agreed to the project. The Deadline report didn’t necessarily say James had signed on as it was more about how Charlie and Will Ebersol were writing the screenplay. Original post follows…

The first Space Jam was junk. Sure, I was 19 at the time and well outside the target demographic, but I can’t pretend it holds any place in my heart and I’m saying this as a life-long basketball player and fan. The only good thing that came out of the film were the Air Jordan XIs, which were easily one of the most comfortable pair of basketball shoes I ever wore.

Now, 18 years after Michael Jordan starred alongside Bugs Bunny, it appears LeBron James will get his chance to battle space aliens inhabiting some of the NBA’s best in an intergalactic game of basketball as broadcasting veteran Dick Ebersol’s sons, Charlie and Will Ebersol, have come on board to script a sequel with James expected to play the lead.

This won’t be the first time James has been animated as he already has his own, online animated series titled “The LeBrons” and he’s already expressed an interest in doing a Space Jam 2.

No word on what the story will be, but maybe I can at least hope for a new pair of shoes. [Deadline]
