Upon hearing the news Riddick is the #1 title atop the DVD and Blu-ray sales charts, Universal apparently called Vin Diesel and shared their enthusiasm as well as informed the actor they want to begin developing another sequel. In the following video, which Diesel posted on his Facebook page, he dances around to Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” and Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love” while giving his fans the update saying:
“I’m just excited, and happy, and I’m shouting out to you guys to say thank you. Universal just called me and told me Riddick is number one on the DVD charts. There’s no way Riddick would have been made without you guys. You know that. and you guys have been a part of our page since 2012 and remember how arduous a road it was to get the movie made, and to make it rated ‘R,’ and to do it with such a low budget. It’s a win for all of us and I really, really thank you so much. Yeah, I’m excited, and of course, Universal also says they want to develop the next one.”
Personally, I though Riddick was terrible, and this is coming from someone that liked Pitch Black and doesn’t actually mind The Chronicles of Riddick. However, if there is more to come in the future, so be it, but there is a big difference between the studio saying they are “developing” one versus greenlighting one.
Watch the Vin’s video below and don’t feel bad if you are a little weirded out by it… I was. I mean, what’s with the microphone and I find the number of poses he strikes hilarious. Just me?
