First Look at Clint Eastwood’s ‘Jersey Boys’

One movie you won’t find on my Jersey Boys, an adaptation of the stage musical telling the story of the rise to fame of the 1960s group Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. So, I guess it’s a matter of good timing that Warner Bros. has released the above first picture from the movie, set to hit theaters on June 20.

Pictured above is John Lloyd Young as Frankie Valli, Erich Bergen as Bob Gaudio, Vincent Piazza as Tommy DeVito and Michael Lomenda as Nick Massi. The film also stars Christopher Walken as mob boss Angelo ‘Gyp’ DeCarlo.

My lack of interest in this one largely stems from a lack of confidence in Eastwood’s ability to bring any measure of life to a film outside of grumbling and “get off my lawn” attitude. I’ve never seen the Broadway original and perhaps that’s exactly what this story calls for, but I’m going to go out on a limb and guess it’s not. I also have to wonder how Eastwood is going to fit in his now-standard, downbeat piano score, though perhaps this is just the movie to liven the soon-to-be 84-year-old director up.
