‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ IMAX Poster and Increased Budget

Lionsgate has premiered a brand new The Hunger Games: Catching Fire IMAX poster and it has some pretty intricate detailing, which you can explore if you click the poster below to view a full size version. In addition to this, The Hollywood Reporter has written up a piece focusing on the budget increase from the first film to the second.

2012’s The Hunger Games cost a reported $78 million to produce and went on to make over $691 million worldwide. The sequel is already expected to make nearly $1 billion once it hits theaters on November 22 and apparently it cost $52 million more than the original. The additional funds apparently include a $10 million pay day for star Jennifer Lawrence, who made $500,000 on the first film, with the male stars — Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, etc. — received only small increases.

An additional $10 million was spent on effects and a little over $30 million more went to a variety of factors from a longer production schedule including multiple locations. The first film was shot in North Carolina, while Catching Fire expands to Georgia and Hawaii.

Now I know what some of you are going to say when it comes to the Lawrence pay day bump, because I commented on the paltry $125,000 Charlie Hunnam was Fifth Shades of Grey. Many of you commented how that’s how it goes and he would have been paid more for the sequel, but that wasn’t my point.

My point was to look at just what Hunnam would have had to deal with had he stuck with the job. Compare that to Lawrence in Hunger Games. Hunnam was essentially taking a Twilight deal and any respectable level of popularity he stood to gain was miniscule at best. Lawrence, however, is fortunate to be in a far more respected franchise with Hunger Games and managed to bank some cash while she’s placing Oscars on her mantle and becoming a fan favorite while she’s at it, on both sides of the gender lines and in circles that actually appreciate cinema and not just young adult novels.

You can check out the new poster below and I’ve included the new “final” trailer for the film just above.
