‘Transcendence’ Plot Synopsis and New Behind the Scenes Picture

So apparently Johnny Depp is retiring soon, but not before he stars in Pirates of the Caribbean 5, Alice in Wonderland 2 and Wally Pfister‘s Transcendence, the latter of which is the topic of conversation here as ScreenCrush has gotten their hands on the first official synopsis for the film:

Will Caster (Johnny Depp), forefather of A.I., has his consciousness uploaded onto the Internet.

Once there, is it really Will who is interacting with humanity in order to make things better, or a darker sinister clone bent on the termination of the world as we know it?

This is a little more specific in ways and not so much in others as the description we had before, which said Depp’s character was murdered by anti-technology terrorists, but his wife (Rebecca Hall) uploads his brain into the supercomputer he created, allowing him the ability to communicate through it and continue conducting his research.

It would seem this “supercomputer” is in fact the Internet, but for the most part it seems we now have a pretty good idea of what to expect once the film hits theaters on April 18, 2014.

As for the picture of Pfister, Hall and Paul Bettany on the set, that arrives via The Film Stage.
